From the commentary's 'It says: [...]' up to 'the eye and so on, not others', this can be understood from the text. The Nyāyānusāra states: 'If so, then mental consciousness also fluctuates along with the physical body; that is, when wind diseases and the like afflict the body, mental consciousness is disordered, and when the body is at ease, mental consciousness is tranquil. For what reason does that mental consciousness not take the body as its basis? Because it fluctuates along with its own basis, there is no such fault. That is, when wind diseases and the like afflict the body, body-consciousness associated with painful feeling is generated; such a body-consciousness is called a disordered mind-element. When this passes away together with the painful feeling, it is capable of serving as a mind faculty that generates a disordered mental consciousness. In contrast to this, mental consciousness is tranquil; therefore, mental consciousness fluctuates along with its own basis. Does not an uncontaminated consciousness arise immediately following a contaminated mind element? With such differences, how does mental consciousness fluctuate along with its own basis? It is not according to categories such as contaminated or uncontaminated that it is said to fluctuate along with its own basis, but merely according to distinctions of deterioration or improvement, clarity or dullness. Just as from an eye faculty that is non-obscured and neutral, a wholesome, unwholesome, or obscured eye-consciousness is generated, and yet it is called eye-consciousness fluctuating along with its own basis. This should also be the case here; therefore, that which relies does not fluctuate along with all phenomenal characteristics of what is relied upon. If it were not so, then that which relies would not fluctuate along with what is relied upon.'
