2.26

論「色界所繫至無所緣故」，第二釋色界也。文中有二：一辨法多少、二問答分別。此文初也。無段食故無香、味境，以無境故無鼻、舌識。

The treatise says: "Bound to the form realm... because they lack a cognitive object." This is the second [section], explaining the form realm. Within the passage there are two parts: first, distinguishing the number of phenomena; second, analysis through questions and answers. This passage is the first. Because they lack material food (kavaḍīkārāhāra), there are no objects of smell and taste; and because they lack the objects, they lack nose-consciousness and tongue-consciousness.
