2.36

論「於彼可無至離根應有」，難也。男根依處，以無用故，離根非有。鼻、舌根依處，為有用故，離根應有。

The treatise says: "In that case it may be absent... apart from the faculties they should be present." This is an objection. The physical base of the male faculty, because it has no function, does not exist apart from the faculty. The physical bases of the nose and tongue faculties, because they have a function, should exist apart from the faculties.
