The Śāstra says: "If bound to the form realm […] because all are admitted to take them as objects." The three classes of the form realm are objects of only eight consciousnesses. They are objects for three kinds of the desire realm: because those abandoned by seeing suffering and origination have nine that take higher realms as objects, and wholesome contaminated minds abandoned by cultivation can take higher realms as objects. Those of its own realm that can take them as objects can be understood as before: there are six kinds in total. Because the wholesome mind abandoned by cultivation in the uninterrupted path of the stage of infinite space in the formless realm takes all four dhyānas as its collective object; because uncontaminated subsequent receptivities and knowledges of suffering and origination can all take them as objects; because the four abandonments of the formless realm do not take lower realms as objects; and because those abandoned by cessation and the path take their own category as objects. Therefore, they are objects of only eight consciousnesses.
