The Śāstra states: "In this order... up to: direct realization of the noble truths (āryasatyābhisamaya)." This concludes with the collective name. These sixteen moments of mind are collectively called "direct realization" (abhisamaya). "Direct" (abhi-) means manifesting before [one]; "realization" (samaya) means real contemplation. The Nyāyānusāra states: "In this order there are sixteen moments of mind, which are collectively called the direct realization of the noble truths. This is because regarding the objects of the four noble truths of the three realms, one sequentially, directly manifests and contemplates them as they really are. Since one's attention and thinking circulate and fluctuate through the objects of the four noble truths of the three realms, how could that not be an obstacle to direct realization? Because in the stage of initial practice one has circulated many times through the objects of the truths, [the mind] has already become thoroughly mature."
