論「諸有漏道至已離故」，明有漏道唯近分定能斷下地，不能斷自及上地惑。自地煩惱所隨增故，不能斷自地惑。勢力劣故，不能斷上。起上地根本，已離下故，唯未至斷。

On the Śāstra's statement: "All āsrava paths up to because it has already been abandoned": This clarifies that for āsrava paths, only the preparatory stage (sāmantaka) can sever a lower ground; it cannot sever the defilements of its own or higher grounds. Because it is accompanied and increased by the afflictions of its own ground, it cannot sever defilements of its own ground. Because its power is inferior, it cannot sever higher ones. When a fundamental higher ground arises, the lower has already been abandoned; thus severance occurs only in the threshold [stage].
