24.43

論「行無色者至有差別故」，釋樂定也。差別有四，謂生般、有行、無行、上流。准此論文，行色界中有二種別，一得雜修，生五淨居；二不得雜修，生色界已後生無色。行無色者，在欲界中離色染已生於無色，即是樂定有二種也，一生色界已生於無色、二不生色界生於無色。

On the treatise passage, "Those who fare in the formless realm... because there is a distinction": This explains those who delight in samādhi. There are four distinctions: namely, parinirvāṇa upon rebirth, with effort, without effort, and upstream. According to this treatise text, among those who fare in the form realm there are two kinds: first, those who obtain miscellaneous cultivation and are reborn in the five Śuddhāvāsa heavens; second, those who do not obtain miscellaneous cultivation, and having been reborn in the form realm, are later reborn in the formless realm. Those who fare in the formless realm, having separated from passion for form while in the desire realm, are reborn in the formless realm; that is to say, those who delight in samādhi are of two kinds: first, those who, having been reborn in the form realm, are reborn in the formless realm; second, those who, without being reborn in the form realm, are reborn in the formless realm.
