24.62

「論曰至般涅槃故」，釋。欲界經生聖人、決定不往上界處生、以先了苦受欲界生、其生短促尚難可忍、上界命長深厭不往。故得那含已、由厭不上生、必於現身般涅槃也。

"The treatise says... attains parinirvāṇa" is the explanation. A noble person who has undergone birth in the desire realm definitely does not go to be born in the stations of higher realms. Having previously comprehended suffering and undergone birth in the desire realm, where life is brief and yet difficult to endure, and because life in the higher realms is long, they feel deep revulsion and do not go. Therefore, having obtained [the fruit of] the non-returner (anāgāmin), through revulsion they are not born above, and must attain parinirvāṇa in the present body.
