The passage of the treatise starting with "Herein, the first grade... the fifth grade has fifteen" clarifies the completion of the grades. One thought-moment uncontaminated, one thought-moment contaminated, and one thought-moment uncontaminated: when these three minds are initially perfected, it is called the lower grade. Arising the three minds again is called the second grade; arising the three minds once more forms the third grade; arising the three minds four times or five times repeatedly is called the fourth grade and the fifth grade. This is the meaning of the power of perfuming cultivation gradually increasing. Due to this, the first has three, the second six, the third nine, the fourth has twelve, and the fifth fifteen.
