The Śāstra states: "As for all things recollected up to having previously heard them," clarifying the recollection of previously experienced events. The Vibhāṣā, scroll 100, says: "Question: Does this knowledge that follows upon memory of previous lives only recollect and know previously experienced events, or does it also recollect and know events not previously experienced? Answer: This only recollects and knows previously experienced events. Question: If so, this knowledge would not recollect and know the events of the five pure abodes, because since beginningless time one has never been born there. Answer: There are two tracks of previously experienced events: first, having previously seen; second, having previously heard. Although one has never seen the events of the five pure abodes, because one has previously heard of them, one can also recollect and know them. The other extremely distant and extremely superior, difficult-to-know events of the desire and form realms should be understood by analogy with this." (End of śāstra citation.)
