28.5

論「於中先辨至靜慮云何」，此品大文有二：一明德所依定、二明餘性功德。此明德所依定。於中有四：一明靜慮、二明無色、三明等至、四明等持。此文第一明靜慮也。文中有三：一問、二答、三釋。此問起也。

The Śāstra states: "Among them, we first distinguish... what is dhyāna?" This chapter's major text has two parts: first, clarifying the absorptions on which virtues rely; second, clarifying the other merits. This clarifies the absorptions on which virtues rely. Herein there are four: first, clarifying dhyāna; second, clarifying formlessness; third, clarifying meditative attainments (samāpatti); fourth, clarifying concentration (samādhi). This text is the first, clarifying dhyāna. In the text there are three: first, a question; second, an answer; third, an explanation. This raises the question.
