29.13

論「理實應言悲是不害」，論主正釋。《正理論》云「有作是言：悲是不害，近治害故。理實如是，但害似瞋，以瞋名說。悲之行相亦似無嗔，立無嗔名，實是不害（已上論文）。」

The Śāstra states: "In actual truth, it should be said that compassion is non-harm." This is the author's correct explanation. The Nyāyānusāra states: "Some say: Compassion is non-harm, because it directly counteracts harm. In actual truth it is so, but because harm resembles ill-will, it is spoken of using the name 'ill-will.' The mode of activity of compassion also resembles non-ill-will, so it is given the name 'non-ill-will,' whereas in truth it is non-harm (thus far the text)."
