The passage of the treatise starting with "The eighth liberation... until: attains the name of liberation" explains the intrinsic nature of the eighth liberation. As explained in the Chapter on Faculties, there are two interpretations: first, because it arises turning away from and repulsed by feeling and ideation, it is called liberation, which in other places is called the cessation of ideation and feeling; or, because it comprehensively turns away from and is repulsed by that which has an intentional object, which means revulsion toward all mind and mental factors, it is thereby called the meditative absorption of cessation (nirodhasamāpatti).
