The Śāstra states: "Namely, ill-will, harm... up to: love and the others are established." This is the answer. Because the predominant obstacles are four, there are only four, neither increasing nor decreasing. That is, love counteracts ill-will, compassion counteracts harm, sympathetic joy counteracts discontent, and equanimity counteracts sensual lust and ill-will. The Nyāyānusāra states: "Ill-will refers to the mental factor that desires to kill sentient beings; the mental factor that desires to afflict sentient beings is called harm. Attachment to cognitive objects, being the cause of not delighting to abide in wholesome factors, is called discontent. Giving rise to tainted delight regarding exquisite sensory objects, with feelings never satiated, is called sensual lust (thus far the text)."
