The Śāstra states: "Their becoming pure is due to the last three faculties." This has three kinds: If it is called pure because its essence is anāsrava, then it is solely the mental faculty; if it is called pure because of freedom from the bondage of its own defilements and because of cessation, then it applies to the six faculties, the eye and the rest.
