[Regarding the phrase of] the treatise, "It should be known that here... the nature of mental remorse," [this] extensively explains the entity. That is, an action performed that does not accord with one's wishes is called 'badly done' (durkṛta), not that an action contrary to principle is called 'badly done.' As in the case of unwholesome remorse, which takes as its object what was done wholesomely: the mind capable of remorse takes its bad deed as object, and derives its name from the object. That is, because there is a bad deed, it is called regret; this is an analysis of possessive compounding (bahuvrīhi). In accordance with the three analogies below, there are three interpretations: first, obtaining its name from the intentional object; second, obtaining its name from its basis; third, receiving its designation from the cause.
