[On the passage in] the treatise, from "It is unreasonable in this way" to "this is why it is unreasonable": The Sautrāntika reproaches that it is not directly perceptible (pratyakṣa) by the eye or ear like visible matter and sound; nor is it known by the knowledge of another's mind like greed and anger; nor is it knowable by inference (anumāna) like the eye and ear, which are known to have distinct real entities because they have the functions of seeing and hearing. Since this acquisition is neither knowable by direct perception, nor knowable by inference because it lacks any function, it has no real entity. Since it lacks both means of valid cognition (pramāṇa), being knowable in this way is unreasonable.
