論「若爾至而須壽耶」，經部難也。經部宗六處住時勢分名壽，大乘本識上假立，有部別有實物。故經部言：何緣不許唯業能持煗、識，而須壽耶？

Regarding the treatise's statement, "If so ... why is lifespan needed?": The Sautrāntika school raises an objection. According to the Sautrāntika tenet, the duration and power of the six sense spheres is nominally called lifespan; in the Mahāyāna, it is nominally established on the foundational consciousness; for the Sarvāstivāda, it is a distinct real entity. Therefore the Sautrāntika says: For what reason do you not accept that karma alone can sustain warmth and consciousness, such that lifespan is needed?
