論「何謂功能至或謂士用」，釋功能也。作用是業用名，士用就喻以顯。《正理論》云「為親緣用名曰功能。」

On the passage in the śāstra from “What is meant by functional capacity?…” to “…or called purposive action (puruṣakāra)”: This explains functional capacity. “Operation” is the name for karmic activity; “purposive action” is explained by way of analogy. The Nyāyānusāra states: “An immediate and proximate causal operation is called functional capacity.”
