7.94

論「大於所造至因之差別」，此明大種與造色為因也。謂有五因，謂生、依、立、持、養。此即於能作因中分出五因，若合說唯能作因，若別說即有其五。

The treatise says: "The great elements with respect to derived matter... the distinctions among causes." This clarifies the primary elements serving as causes for derived matter. Namely, there are five causes: generating, supporting, establishing, maintaining, and nourishing. These five causes are divided out from within the efficient cause; taken collectively there is only the efficient cause, but taken distinctively there are these five.
