8.10

論「言洲異者至北俱盧洲」，此明洲異。贍部從林立名，名贍部洲。以身勝故，名勝身洲。以牛貨易，名牛貨洲。俱盧，此云勝處，於四洲中此最勝故。

The Śāstra says: "Regarding the differences among the continents ... up to Uttarakuru." This clarifies the differences among the continents. Jambudvīpa derives its name from the [jambu] forest, being named the Continent of Jambu. Because their bodies are superior, it is named the Continent of Superior Bodies (Pūrvavideha). Because cattle are used in trade, it is named the Continent of Cattle-wealth (Aparagodānīya). Kuru is translated here as 'superior place,' because among the four continents this one is the most superior.
