8.142

論「云何濕生至蚊蚰蜒等」，釋濕生也。依濕而生名為濕生。以有所託，故在化生前。以有濕無胎，在胎生後說。

The Śāstra says: "What is moisture-born? [...] mosquitoes, centipedes, and so forth." This explains moisture-born. That which is born relying on moisture is called moisture-born. Because it has something upon which it depends, it precedes the apparitionally born. Because it has moisture without a womb, it is spoken of after the womb-born.
