9.21

「論曰至以極細故」，明眼見也。此以極細故，唯同類眼互得相見，及有修得天眼能見，非生得眼。准此論文，上地生得不及下地修得天眼。又同類相見，自是別義，非唯以細。天中有眼不劣下趣，何為不見？故知義別。

[On the statement:] "The commentary says […] because it is extremely subtle": This clarifies seeing with the eye. Because this is extremely subtle, only eyes of the same category can see each other, and those who possess the cultivated divine eye can see it, not the birth-acquired eye. According to this text of the Śāstra, the birth-acquired divine eye of a higher stage is inferior to the cultivated divine eye of a lower stage. Furthermore, mutual seeing among those of the same category is itself a distinct meaning, not merely due to subtlety. If the eye of an intermediate existence in heaven is not inferior to that of a lower destiny, why does it not see? Therefore, one knows the meanings are distinct.
