9.80

論「如是蘊相續說三生為位」，此下第八明緣起也。就中有七：一明十二支位、二明體性、三明說意、四明說有情意、五束為三二、六明惑等相稱、七正釋經意。此一頌第一明十二支位。

The Śāstra says: "Such a continuum of skandhas is explained taking three lives as its stages." From here below, the eighth section clarifies conditioned origination (pratītyasamutpāda). Within this there are seven points: first, clarifying the stages of the twelve links; second, clarifying their essential nature; third, clarifying the intention of the teaching; fourth, clarifying the intention of speaking of sentient beings; fifth, grouping them into three and two; sixth, clarifying how the afflictions and the rest correspond to one another; seventh, properly explaining the intention of the sūtra. This single verse is the first, clarifying the stages of the twelve links.
