論「於母胎等至五蘊名識」，此出第三識支體也。《正理論》云「此一剎那識最勝故。此唯意識，於此位中五識生緣猶未具故。」

The treatise says: "In the mother's womb and so forth... the five skandhas are named consciousness (vijñāna)." This presents the intrinsic nature of the third link, vijñāna. The Nyāyānusāra states: "Because in this single moment consciousness is the most pre-eminent. This is only mental consciousness (manovijñāna), for in this state the conditions for the arising of the five [sensory] consciousnesses are not yet complete."
