The treatise says: "The primal dwelling place of the ghosts... fully explained in the sūtras." This states the dwelling places of ghosts, along with the differences between the poor and the rich. The *Nyāyānusāra* says: "Directly below the southern edge of this Jambudvīpa, at a depth exceeding five hundred yojanas, is King Yama's capital, of equal length and breadth. Someone says: 'With this text as proof, one clearly knows that the diamond throne is near the north, while the various hells and so forth are below the king's capital, slightly nearer to the southern edge, so they do not obstruct each other.'" Now examining this explanation, this matter may perhaps not be so. The Avīci hell is twenty thousand yojanas wide, and outside its four gates are the sixteen subsidiary hells; or it is said that seven hells surround the Avīci hell, beside which are also the locations of the cold hells; even if they were slightly to the south, they would still encroach beneath the diamond throne. Now, the dwellings of the human destiny and the residences of the ghost destiny do not obstruct one another; therefore, one knows that the hells, the ghost destiny, and the diamond throne do not obstruct one another. Were it not so, how could the places of the ghost destiny and so forth be devoid of earth and stone?
