The Śāstra states: "If toward one's father and mother... thinking they are another and killing them", explaining that a mistake does not constitute an anantarya offense. In the Vibhāṣā, it says: "If one dispatches an emissary to kill the parents while they are walking, but they are killed while sitting, it does not constitute an anantarya offense. In such cases, merely bringing forth a discrepancy with the original intention means that none of them constitutes an anantarya."
