29.3

The Śāstra says: "In this way the absorptions that serve as supports have been explained." This is the second major section, explaining the qualities that depend on absorption. Within this: first, explaining the four immeasurables; second, explaining the eight liberations; third, explaining the eight bases of mastery; fourth, explaining the ten totalities; fifth, explaining the bodily support for attainment; sixth, explaining the conditions for giving rise to absorption. The three stanzas below constitute the first, explaining the four immeasurables.
