釋曰：類同者，同眼自性故。境同者，同以色為境故。識同者，同與眼識為所依故。由此眼界雖二立一，耳、鼻亦應如是分別。

The commentary explains: 'Type is the same' because they share the intrinsic nature of the eye. 'Object is the same' because they equally take form as their object. 'Consciousness is the same' because they equally serve as the basis for the eye consciousness. Because of this, although there are two eyes, they are established as one dhātu; the ear and nose should also be differentiated in this way.
