傳說是明闇者，出空界體。應知此體不離晝夜，晝以明為體，夜以闇為體。依經部宗，空界是假。薩婆多師，空界是實，明闇為體。論主意朋經部，故曰傳說。

'Tradition says it is light and darkness' identifies the essential nature of the space element. It should be known that this essential nature is not separate from day and night: day takes light as its essential nature, and night takes darkness as its essential nature. According to the Sautrāntika school, the space element is nominal (prajñapti). For the Sarvāstivāda masters, the space element is real (dravya), having light and darkness as its essential nature. Because the author of the treatise leaned toward the Sautrāntika, he said 'tradition says'.
