The explanation says: Sumeru is the first, and Cakravāḍa is the last; between them are eight seas. The first seven are named the inner [seas]. All of the seven possess water with eight qualities: first, sweet; second, cold; third, soft; fourth, light; fifth, pure; sixth, without foul odor; seventh, not harming the throat when drunk; and eighth, not injuring the stomach after drinking. In this way, the first of the seven seas is eighty thousand wide; measured by the inner circumference of Mount Yugaṃdhara, the amount on its four faces is threefold each, namely, each becoming two hundred thousand and forty thousand yojanas. The measurements of the remaining six seas become narrower by half and half: that is, the second sea measures forty thousand wide, down to the seventh, which measures one thousand two hundred and fifty wide. The circumference of these is not stated because it would be too cumbersome. The eighth is named outer, filled with salt water, and its breadth measures three hundred thousand twenty-two thousand.
