Furthermore, there are eight intermediate continents that are retinues of the great continents; that is, beside each of the four great continents there are two intermediate continents. The two intermediate continents beside Jambūdvīpa are: first, Cāmaradvīpa, here translated as Yak; second, Varacāmaradvīpa, here translated as Superior Yak. The two intermediate continents beside eastern Pūrvavideha are: first, Dehadvīpa, here translated as Body; second, Videhadvīpa, here translated as Superior Body. The two intermediate continents beside western Aparagodānīya are: first, Śāṭhīdvīpa, here translated as Flattery; second, Uttaramantriṇadvīpa, here translated as Superior Bearing. The two intermediate continents beside northern Uttarakuru are: first, Kurudvīpa, here translated as Superior Border; second, Kauravadvīpa, here translated as Possessing a Superior Border. These eight intermediate continents are all inhabited by humans whose stature is short and small, like the dwarfs of this land. Some say that on only one continent do rākṣasas dwell, which is precisely Cāmaradvīpa of this direction.
