The explanation says: There are five names, which are differences in names for non-discipline. Because they are reproached and loathed by the wise and because their fruits are not desirable, the name "misconduct" is established. Because they defile pure ethical discipline (śīla), they are called "bad precepts". Because they are produced by body and speech, they are called "karma". Because they are included in the fundamental, they are called "paths of karma". Because they do not restrain body and speech, they are called "non-discipline". However, the name "path of karma" designates only the initial moment; spanning the initial and subsequent stages, the other four names are established.
