16.45

且第一，明惡加行者，論云：「又經中說：『苾芻當知，殺有三種：一從貪生、二從瞋生、三從癡生。乃至邪見有三亦爾。』此中應說，何相殺生名從貪生？問餘亦爾（問也）。非諸業道一切皆由三根究竟，然其加行不與彼同（經言十業道從三根生，約加行說），云何不同？」頌曰：

First, explaining the unwholesome preparatory stage, the Śāstra states: "Moreover, it is said in the sūtra: 'Monks, you should know that killing is of three kinds: first, born of greed; second, born of hatred; third, born of delusion. Up to wrong view, it is likewise threefold.' Here it should be explained: with what characteristic is killing said to be born of greed? The question regarding the rest is also like this (this is the question). Not all courses of action are culminated by all three roots; however, their preparatory stages are not the same as that (when the sūtra says the ten courses of action are born of the three roots, it is spoken with respect to the preparatory stage). How are they not the same?" The verse says:
