Regarding "others say [idle chatter is] defiled [speech] other than the three: flattery, songs, false treatises, and so on," other masters say: "Speech from a defiled mind other than the preceding three kinds of speech, namely lying and so forth, is called idle chatter—namely, flattery, songs, and so forth. 'Flattery' refers to adulation, such as a monk uttering flattering words through wrong livelihood. 'Songs' refers to singing, such as teasing one another through recitation and singing, or entertainers. 'False treatises' refers to words maintained through incorrect views. 'And so on' includes sighs of grief from a defiled mind, as well as worldly words of frivolous elaboration. All of these are idle chatter. When a wheel-turning king appears in the world, although there is singing, it arises from a mind of renunciation and is not truly a defiled mind." Other masters say: "At such times, the singing at weddings is too slight an offense to constitute a karmapatha."
