Regarding "reconnecting the roots of good is through doubt or view of existence," "doubt" means doubting whether it exists, and "view" means right view. That is, generating in oneself a mind that doubts existence with respect to cause and effect: "Perhaps this exists." From the mind that doubts existence, one may generate right view, definitively asserting that it exists and is not non-existent. At that time, the roots of good are able to arise again in succession, and hence it is called reconnecting the roots of good. Doubting existence reconnects the roots of good, whereas doubting non-existence severs the roots of good; to distinguish it from doubting non-existence, it says "doubt of existence."
