Regarding "the last has two, three, three fruits": "the last" refers to the indeterminate, because it comes after the wholesome and unwholesome. This indeterminate karma takes wholesome phenomena as two fruits, unwholesome phenomena as three fruits, and indeterminate phenomena also as three fruits. Taking wholesome phenomena as two fruits refers to personal endeavor and sovereignty. Taking unwholesome phenomena as three fruits excludes ripening and disconnection. Question: "How can the unwholesome be an outflow of the indeterminate?" Answer: "The indeterminate view of self and extreme views act as similar cause, taking the various unwholesome [defilements] as outflow fruit." Taking indeterminate phenomena as three fruits excludes ripening and disconnection.
