The lower two lines explain the four virtues of morality. First, not being ruined by transgression: being free from the aforementioned transgressions of morality. Second, not being ruined by the causes of transgression: "causes" refers to defilements such as greed. Third, "relying on antidote": "antidote" refers to the four applications of mindfulness and so forth, because they counteract the aforementioned transgressions of morality and their causes. Fourth, "relying on cessation": "cessation" refers to nirvāṇa; dedicating towards nirvāṇa, not towards superior rebirth (rebirth among humans and devas). The verse says "pure": endowed with the four virtues above, morality is called pure; contrary to this, it is called impure. "Etc." means there is another explanation: the purity of morality is due to five kinds of causes: first, purity of the fundamental, being free from evil fundamentals; second, purity of the retinue, being free from evil expedients; third, not being harmed by discursive thought, being free from evil thoughts; fourth, being embraced by mindfulness, mindfully receiving the Three Jewels; fifth, dedicating towards tranquility, seeking nirvāṇa.
