Explanation: 'From cultivating the karma of the wondrous marks' means that beyond the three incalculable eons, over one hundred great eons cultivating the karmic fruit of the thirty-two wondrous marks, one obtains the designation of abiding in certainty. There are six meanings by which this is called 'certainty': First, certainty of good destinies, always being born among humans and devas, not in bad destinies. Second, certainty of birth in noble families, always being born in families of Brahmins, Kṣatriyas, wealthy householders, or great Brahmins (meaning distinguished clans). Third, certainty of complete faculties, always possessing superior faculties in noble families without defect or deficiency. Fourth, certainty of being male, always receiving a male body and not being female. Fifth, certainty of mindfulness, always remembering past lives. Sixth, certainty of steadfastness, never falling back in wholesome actions that one performs; that is, in benefiting and gladdening sentient beings, when others come to oppose him, he is able to endure it all with a mind free of weariness. It is as when people say there is a 'priceless servant' (dāsa, meaning a servant without a price, called a priceless servant because one need not buy him with money). One should know that this expression designates that bodhisattva who, through long cultivation of unconditioned great compassion (called unconditioned because it arises even without external conditions), is naturally and constantly bound to others, viewing all sentient beings universally as identical to himself, or constantly viewing himself as their servant. That is to say, in all things difficult to seek, he can endure them, and in all oppressive toils, he can bear them.
