18.66

釋曰：言逆次者，自後向前，謂於第三無數劫滿，逢勝觀佛。第二劫滿，逢燃燈佛。第一劫滿，逢寶髻佛。最初發心，逢釋迦牟尼，發弘誓言：「願我當作佛，一如今世尊。」彼佛世尊末劫出世，正法住一千年，故今如來一一同彼。

Explanation: 'In reverse order' means from later to earlier. That is, at the completion of the third incalculable eon, he encountered Vipaśyin Buddha. At the completion of the second eon, he encountered Dīpaṃkara Buddha. At the completion of the first eon, he encountered Ratnaśikhin Buddha. When he first gave rise to the aspiration, he encountered Śākyamuni and made the great vow: 'May I become a Buddha, exactly like the present World-Honoured One.' That Buddha, the World-Honoured One, appeared in the world in a declining eon, and his true Dharma remained for one thousand years; therefore, our present Tathāgata is in every respect identical to him.
