Regarding "because they are solely inverted, deliberative, and superimposing": this adduces three causes to establish the four inversions. The three causes are: first, being completely inverted; second, having a deliberative nature; third, being a false superimposition. The attachment to rules and vows is not completely inverted, for grasping a defiled path as attaining pure nirvāṇa—although it does not definitively cut off defilements and realize cessation—can temporarily separate from defilement and realize cessation; taking minor purity as its object, it is not completely inverted. The view of annihilation and wrong view are not false superimpositions, because they operate through non-existence. The remaining [defilements], greed, anger, and so forth, cannot deliberate, because they do not have the nature of views. Therefore, the remaining defilements are not the essential nature of the inversions.
