The commentary says: The eye, ear, and mind faculties grasp objects that do not contact them. That is, the eye can see forms at a distance, while collyrium and the like in the eye cannot be seen. The ear can hear sounds at a distance, while what is pressed directly against the ear faculty cannot be heard. Because the mind is non-material, it cannot be called contacting. Therefore, these three faculties grasp objects that do not contact them.
