從此第二，約斷明離繫。論云：「今應思擇：諸事已斷，彼離繫耶？設事離繫，彼已斷耶（問也）？若事離繫，彼必已斷。有事已斷，而非離繫（答也）。斷非離繫，其事云何（徵起）？」頌曰：
Next is the second [part], explaining disconnection from bondage with reference to severing. The treatise says: "Now it should be examined: when phenomena are severed, are they disconnected from bondage? Supposing phenomena are disconnected from bondage, are they severed (the question)? If phenomena are disconnected from bondage, they are definitely severed. There are phenomena that are severed, yet not disconnected from bondage (the answer). As for being severed yet not disconnected from bondage, what is the case (inquiring into it)?" The verse says:
