As for 'In higher planes each accords with what is fitting, / pervading all feelings of its own consciousnesses', this explains that all afflictions of the higher realms, according to what is fitting, pervasively arise together with all consciousnesses of their own plane and are associated with all their feelings. For instance, in the first dhyāna there are four consciousnesses: if an affliction arises from the three consciousnesses beginning with the eye, it is associated with pleasure and equanimity; if an affliction arises in the mental sphere, it is associated with joy and equanimity. From the second dhyāna onward up to the peak of existence, there is only mental consciousness: if an affliction arises in the second dhyāna, it is associated with joy and equanimity; if an affliction arises in the third dhyāna, it is associated with pleasure and equanimity; the afflictions arising from the fourth [dhyāna] onward up to the peak of existence are associated only with equanimity.
