The explanation states: Excluding the subsequent cognition of the path, the first fifteen mental moments are called the path of seeing, because one now sees what was not yet seen of the principles of the four truths; seeing what has not yet been seen, it therefore obtains the name 'seeing'. Reaching the subsequent cognition of the path, there is no principle of the truths that is now seen without having been seen before; like cultivation, one has already seen them, so it is subsumed under the path of cultivation. Question: "As the subsequent patience of the path is the principle of the truth of the path, and this subsequent cognition of the path takes the subsequent patience of the path as its object, one now sees the subsequent patience of the path without having seen it before; why then is the subsequent cognition of the path not subsumed under the path of seeing?" Answer: "Here it is determined by the truths, not by the moments. Although with respect to the single mental moment of the subsequent patience of the path one now sees what was not yet seen, with respect to the eight truths above and below, one has already seen them all; thus it is subsumed under the path of cultivation. It is like harvesting rice in a plot: when only a single clump remains, one cannot call it an unharvested plot." Question: "Patience now sees what has not yet been seen of the principles of the truths, so it may be called the path of seeing. The intermediate seven cognitions now see what has already been seen; why are the seven cognitions also subsumed under the path of seeing?" Answer: "Because one's knowledge of the truths is not yet complete and they arise in the interim, they are also subsumed under the path of seeing."
