24.56

言一切餘八離自上者，餘八謂中間、四本靜慮及三無色，於此八地起無漏道，能離自地及上地染，不能離下，謂已離故。

Regarding "The other eight abandon their own and higher ones," the other eight refers to the intermediate [dhyāna], the four fundamental dhyānas, and the three formless realms. When the unconditioned path is aroused in these eight stages, it can abandon the defilements of its own stage and of higher stages; it cannot abandon lower ones, because they have already been abandoned.
