捨果勝果道，唯得果道故者，明有學依六地所以也。夫轉根者，容捨果道及勝果道（向道是也）。所得唯果，非是向道，必無學果無色地攝，故學練根但依六地。

'Because they abandon the fruition and superior paths to the fruition, and attain only the path of the fruition' explains the reason why the śaikṣa relies on six stages. In transforming the faculties, one is permitted to abandon the path of the fruition and the superior paths to the fruition (which are the paths directed toward higher fruitions). What is attained is only the fruition, not the directed path; and there is certainly no fruition of a śaikṣa subsumed under the formless stages. Therefore, the śaikṣa refining faculties relies on only six stages.
