27.86

治三際愚故者，於六通中，唯三名明，謂能對治三際愚故，宿住智明治前際愚，死生智明治後際愚，漏盡智明治中際愚。

Regarding "because they counteract delusion regarding the three extremities": among the six supernormal knowledges, only three are called "knowledges" (vidyā) because they can counteract delusion regarding the three extremities (pūrvānta, aparānta, madhyānta): the knowledge of past lives counteracts delusion regarding the prior extremity; the knowledge of death and rebirth counteracts delusion regarding the posterior extremity; and the knowledge of the destruction of outflows counteracts delusion regarding the middle extremity.
