29.46

釋曰：三界大師為世眼目，涅槃日久，名為已閉。舍利子等名堪證者，隨佛滅度，名多散滅。

The commentary explains: The great master of the three realms served as the eye of the world; his nirvāṇa being long ago, it is described as 'already closed'. Śāriputra and the others are called 'those capable of witnessing'; following the Buddha's extinction, they are described as 'mostly dispersed and perished'.
