3.36

見修無學道依九立三根者，九謂意、喜、樂、捨、信等五根。若在見道，依此九根立未知當知根。若在修道，依此九根立已知根。在無學道，亦依此九立具知根。

"On the paths of seeing, cultivation, and the one beyond training, three faculties are established based on nine": "nine" refers to the mind faculty, the gladness, pleasure, and equanimity faculties, and the five faculties of faith and so forth. If on the path of seeing, based on these nine faculties, the faculty of one who will come to know what is not yet known is established. If on the path of cultivation, based on these nine faculties, the faculty of one who has come to know is established. On the path of the one beyond training, likewise based on these nine, the faculty of one who possesses complete knowledge is established.
